I have always enjoyed traveling and meeting people.... we are so fortunate in this country to have an opportunity each day to change our lives and touch others at the same time. Sometime ago, while still in the employee world, I received the good fortune of being promoted to the position of vice-president of the manufacturing company. The number 2 position had many amenities; company vehicle with gas card and new responsibilities. I am forever indebted to the owner for the opportunity, education and compensation my new position awarded me. What I remember most is the burden of profitability on a small business and the number of federal laws and forms we had fill out on a monthly schedule.

Our 80 year old company was part of the old economy and woefully needed to be modernized to be able to compete in the new world. So we invested in equipment that would improve our bottom line and reduce our staff along the way.

How did the US government assist American businesses with competition of cheap goods from foreign markets?

The Federal government was aware of foreign competition to American industry........one way they responded by reducing the responsibility of our employer for disability, health care and retirement to the employee. If you were aware of the new laws you were smart to enter the " Age of Ownership" from the perspective of an employer.

So with all this downsizing and fiscal responsibility happening every quarter, I was awaken one day to my own personal financial short comings. What did I own? Not my car, our house, my retirement,,,,, what retirement, I was healthy with strong genes, I could work forever on building someone else's dream and besides look at the average retirement success of Americans through the greatest economic period in the history of the world

This gentlemen and his merry men and women had taken the computer, a very expensive luxury up till this point in history and made it affordable for the everyone in business or anyone who wanted to be in business. We produced printing ink and the personal computer with a laser printer did to our industry what the Guttenberg press did to the book writing monks of the middle ages. Now I have dated myself, so what, my life has improved beyond my wildest dreams because of their work.
